Days/Hours of Work:

Regular Hours: 5:00pm - 5:30am - 12 Hour Rotating Schedule

Orientation and first week schedule: Tuesday (Orientation) - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Warehouse Yard Driver is to operate specialized vehicles such as yard trucks or shunt trucks to transport trailers and containers within the warehouse yard. This is a critical role in maintaining the flow of goods, optimizing yard organization, and contributing to overall warehouse efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

Yard Truck Operation:

  • Safely operate yard trucks to move trailers, containers, and other equipment within the warehouse yard.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle's safety and functionality.

Trailer Management:

  • Position trailers and containers in designated locations within the yard for loading and unloading.
  • Ensure that trailers are properly secured and chocked when parked.

Coordinated Communication:

  • Collaborate with warehouse personnel, forklift operators, and loading/unloading teams to coordinate the movement of goods.
  • Communicate effectively via two-way radio or other communication tools.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly.

Maintenance and Reporting:

  • Report any vehicle malfunctions or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, fuel consumption, and vehicle inspections.

Yard Organization:

  • Assist in maintaining a well-organized and efficient warehouse yard layout.
  • Help identify opportunities for yard optimization and communicate suggestions to supervisors.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience is required.
  • Proven experience operating yard trucks or shunt trucks is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to yard truck operation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Acute Vision: Constant (observing both near and far, reading documents)
  • Climbing: Frequent entering and exiting the cab of a truck
  • Driving: Constant travel in and around the Heartland campus.
  • Speaking: Frequent (able to communicate using electronic devices)
  • Mobility: Frequent travel throughout the office environment, production, and warehouse areas
  • Bending/Squatting: Occasionally (conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections)
  • Lifting: Occasionally 50 lbs. or less
  • Climate: Frequent work in a non-climate controlled environment (cold, hot)

Pay: $21.50 an hour
