United Rotary Brush Corporation is an Olathe, KS based manufacturer of specialty industrial brushes for the airport, road constructions, street sweeping and plow industries. Our Olathe, KS manufacturing facility (1-35 & 56 Hwy) is looking for a Safety Specialist.
As the company's Safety Specialist you will lead and sustain a culture of safety excellence for United Rotary Brush Corp (URB); and will provide guidance and support across all satellite locations. This role will implement effective safety programs and protocols, ensure the availability and usability of safety equipment. Requires prompt responses to employee safety concerns, provide guidance and support in resolving issues and improve overall safety performance.
The Safety Specialist will focus on strengthening leading indicators such as near-miss reporting, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Machine Guarding programs to prevent complacency and drive continuous improvement. Working without direct reports, you will influence site leadership and frontline teams to ensure accountability and integration of safety into daily operations.
Safety Specialist Duties & Responsibilities
Inspections & AuditsInspect workplaces, equipment, and processes to identify potential risks and verify safety compliance.- Assess workplace hazards and risks and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate them.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential safety issues and ensure compliance with established safety protocols.
- Strengthen and standardize Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices, including audits, training, and compliance verification.
Safety Policy AdministrationDevelop and implement safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with local laws and regulations.- Communicate policies, procedures, and updates to safety processes and procedures.
- Develop, implement, and maintain strategies, plans and procedures to protect employees, property and facilities from workplace health and safety hazards.
- Ensure consistent application of safety standards and practices across the primary and satellite sites.
ComplianceMaintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).Ensures the highest safety compliance standards and a healthy work setting for staff, visitors, and vendors.Risk ManagementDrive improvements in leading safety indicators, including near-miss reporting, JSA quality, and LOTO compliance.Incident InvestigationInvestigating accidents, incidents, and near-miss events to determine root causes and implementing corrective measures to prevent a recurrence.Training & EducationProvide safety training to employees, including safety orientations for new hires.Provide regular safety training sessions and organize impactful safety campaigns to reinforce key risk areas.Collaborating with cross-functional teams to promote safety initiatives and ensure the integration of safety practices into daily operationsEmergency ResponseDevelop and maintain the company's emergency plans.Supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts, including developing evacuation plans and procedures.Skills and Experience
- 3-5+ years of experience in a safety-related role is required.
- Deep understanding of OSHA guidelines, risk assessment techniques, and safe work practices.
Knowledge of site safety laws and regulations applicable to the industry.In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards and best practices.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Proficiency in site safety auditing, inspection and identifying hazards.
- Well-versed in creating emergency response plans tailored to various scenarios.
- Attention to detail and the ability to enforce safety procedures and protocols.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field is highly desirable.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) are preferred.
