Flooring Estimator

  2026-04-06     Alpha Hire     Overland Park,KS
Description:

If you've ever submitted a flooring bid and watched it win because the numbers were right — not just close — you know the difference between an estimator and someone who eyeballs it. Our client is a full-service commercial and residential flooring company that has been operating in the KansasCity market since the early 2000's, built on a reputation for quality craftsmanship, self-perform installation, and design expertise that covers everything from hardwood and tile to LVT, carpet, VCT, and specialty materials. They run their own crews, carry their own inventory, and do their own installs — which means the estimator here isn't just pricing materials off a spreadsheet. You're the engine behind every bid that goes out the door.

What You'll Own

  • Develop accurate, competitive estimates for commercial and residential flooring projects across all material types — hardwood, carpet, tile, LVT/LVP, VCT, vinyl, cork, laminate, and specialty surfaces
  • Perform detailed material takeoffs from construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Scope projects end-to-end: material quantities, installation labor, waste factors, and associated costs
  • Source material pricing from vendor partners and maintain awareness of market pricing fluctuations
  • Prepare and present formal bid packages to clients, general contractors, and project teams
  • Collaborate with project managers and installation crews to ensure estimates reflect real field conditions and production rates
  • Track submitted bids, follow up on open proposals, and support the handoff from estimate to awarded project
  • Identify value engineering opportunities without compromising quality or scope

Requirements

  • Hands-on estimating experience in flooring — commercial, residential, or both; this is a flooring-specific role, not a general construction estimating position
  • Working knowledge of flooring material types and their installation requirements across multiple product categories
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and floor plans for accurate takeoffs
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail; errors in takeoffs have real consequences
  • Proficiency with estimating tools, spreadsheets, and standard business software
  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple bids simultaneously against deadlines
  • Strong communication skills — you'll be interfacing with clients, vendors, and internal teams

Benefits

  • Compensation and full benefits details are being confirmed and will be provided to qualified candidates prior to any submission. Our client offers a competitive package commensurate with flooring estimating experience.
