Position Summary

This role performs safety and security duties throughout the Children's Mercy-Camber Hospital. Responsibilities include monitoring building access, assisting with visitor authorization, escorting individuals, patrolling hospital grounds, and responding to safety or security concerns. The Safety & Security Officer also supports emergency preparedness efforts and helps deescalate incidents in public-facing areas such as the lobby, visitation, and intake spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas to identify safety and security concerns
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of patients, visitors, and staff
  • Escort individuals to designated locations and assist with securing personal belongings
  • Respond to emergency calls and notify appropriate emergency personnel
  • Assist with evacuations, crowd control, and traffic management as needed
  • Address suspicious activity, trespassing, and safety hazards professionally and calmly
  • Deescalate situations involving visitors or intruders in public areas
  • Conduct safety inspections and recommend corrective actions
  • Assist with fire, tornado, and safety drills and related documentation
  • Provide training on fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and use of safety equipment
  • Inspect and maintain emergency and safety equipment, reporting malfunctions promptly
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on program needs
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of verifiable, related employment experience (law enforcement, security, corrections, or military service)
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience working in healthcare, hospital, or public-facing environments
