Job Posting: Animal Care Technician II

Pay: Up to $24 per hour DOE

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician II to join our client, a global pharmaceutical company. In this role, you will learn and perform essential tasks to ensure the care and welfare of research animals. Responsibilities include animal husbandry, handling, health observations, specimen collection, and administering doses. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful research in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure the humane care and welfare of animals through gentle and positive interactions.
• Perform key tasks including:
• Animal handling, restraint, housing maintenance, and feeding.
• Collecting data, observing animal health, and measuring body weight.
• Administering doses by various methods and collecting biological specimens for analysis.
• Conducting euthanasia when necessary, in line with regulatory standards.
• Collect, document, and verify data in forms or electronic systems.
• Maintain and operate equipment and instruments effectively.
• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with GLP, SOP, BOP, and IACUC guidelines.
• Participate in overtime, weekend, holiday, and after-hours shift coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience in animal laboratory settings or handling relevant species. Experience with needle handling and routine dose administration is a plus.
• Certifications: ALAT certification preferred.

Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standards.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and handle objects up to 50 pounds, including animals and equipment.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, sitting, reaching, and using fine motor skills for extended periods.
• Must meet vision requirements for close work and depth perception.

Work Environment:

• Exposure to research settings, including live animals, allergens, zoonotic diseases, and biohazards.
• Work with sharp objects, mechanical equipment, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
• Noise levels vary depending on species housed.

Additional Information:

• Scrubs and facility shoes are provided.
• 8-week training program with an experienced trainer.
• In-person, onsite interviews are required.
• TB test and respirator fit tests will be conducted pre-employment.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday with flexible start times between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
